DIFFICULTY: Easy
A lot of us want to find cures for different diseases, like cancer, but feel like there isn't much we can do because a lot of us aren't researchers or scientists. It's great to help fund research by participating in fundraising events, or just donating, but there are other ways to help too! With World Community Grid, you can actually donate your unused computer time to research! By creating a grid out of the computers that sign up, research time can be cut significantly, allowing cures and information to be found faster. Signing up only takes a couple minutes and after downloading, you don't have to do anything! The program automatically starts working. On the website you can track how many hours you've donated, which translates to a point total. From what I've seen, I think you can register entire companies on one account. Wondering what the program has done in the past?:
"In 2003, with grid computing, in less than three months scientists identified 44 potential treatments to fight the deadly smallpox disease. Without the grid, the work would have taken more than one year to complete."
