DIFFICULTY: Easy
A club at my school called SADD (students against destructive decisions) has been setting up tables at our school lunches to spread awareness about the dangers of drunk driving and substance abuse. It reminded me of a challenge I had tucked away!
We all know drunk driving is bad, but I never really looked at any of the statistics. According to the MADD site, someone is killed by a drunk driver every 45 minutes. That's a lot of people! Driving a two ton vehicle is dangerous enough, and driving drunk just makes it that much worse. MADD, or Mothers Against Drunk Driving, has, according to their site, reduced the drunk driving fatalities by 50%. If you check out the site, you kind find many more statistics and even read stories about those whose lives have been affected by drunk driving incidents, but most importantly, you can take action. If you go here and choose your state, you can find many different ways that you, personally, can help prevent more unnecessary deaths. Most of them involve getting legislation passed. For example, MADD is advocating for a bill to require all DUI offenders to have an interlock device in their car.
Of course, the best way to prevent drunk driving incidents is to not drive drunk and to keep others from driving drunk as well!
