Admittedly, my friends are sometimes the people that I take for granted the most. I always assume they're going to be there for me, and I can't imagine what I would do if they weren't! What makes them so special is not only that they're always supportive and there for me, but that they know and care so much about me. I believe that really getting to know someone and truly making the effort and taking the time to do so is one of the greatest gifts you can give someone! I can't remember where, but at some point in my life I came across the idea that "it's nearly impossible to hate someone you really know" or perhaps it was that "it's nearly impossible not to love someone you really know", but either way, I agree. Who knows, you might realize you have a lot more things in common with someone than you originally thought, so make the effort!

DIFFICULTY: Easy
Today's challenge is to make a prayer list! It can be as long or as short as you want, but it should act as a reminder of the things that are really important to you in life. For that matter, today's challenge is to offer prayers. Sometimes it's the only thing you can do and it's the thing that matters most! Everyone can use a little extra help every once and awhile! DIFFICULTY: Easy I'm beginning to find that the most difficult part of this whole saving the world thing is staying encouraged! Not so much because I've forgotten why I'm doing this, but because so many other things have gotten in the way of completing the tasks I've challenged myself to do. With AP tests, a ton of homework, prom, SATs, and anything else you can imagine, it's pretty hard to stay focused on what I've really wanted to do this year. Besides posting and doing little challenges, I'm not thinking about Love, Anonymously as much as I'd like to be. That's why today I've decided to challenge myself to reread one of the books in the Get Inspired! section. Why? Because reading about people's struggles around the world is a powerful daily reminder of exactly why it's important to keep Love, Anonymously going! DIFFICULTY: Easy What would you do if you ran the world? Would you cure cancer? Would you end hunger? Would you create world peace? When we ask ourselves this question, we dream big, but most of us don't actually think we are capable of accomplishing such big dreams. At IfWeRantheWorld, they ask that simple question...what would you do if you ran the world?, and invite you to answer that question. But they aren't just asking you to answer that question, they're helping you follow through with your answer. Let's say you type in "end poverty". An option would pop up for you to make your own platform, breaking up "ending poverty" into a bunch of smaller, mini steps that anyone can take. Not only that, but it shows you that hundreds of other people have the same goals by letting you see their platforms and follow their mini steps to ending poverty! It's really an awesome concept because, really, why can't we end poverty? So today's challenge is to create your own platform for your own idea or to try to do one of the mini steps on someone else's platform! On a side note, I have updated the count with more tabs, more recycled can money, and other things I haven't updated in a really long time! :) DIFFICULTY: Easy
So with all of this saving the world, it's important we remember to give back to ourselves once and awhile! Today's challenge is a really simple one. Make a list of everything you're grateful for in your life! We spend most of our time thinking about what we wish we had and what we're working towards having, but sometimes it's nice to look back at all the things we've already accomplished and are already thankful that we've been given! There's no better way to really understand how lucky you are than when everything wonderful in your life is listed right in front of you! DIFFICULTY: Easy
A club at my school called SADD (students against destructive decisions) has been setting up tables at our school lunches to spread awareness about the dangers of drunk driving and substance abuse. It reminded me of a challenge I had tucked away! We all know drunk driving is bad, but I never really looked at any of the statistics. According to the MADD site, someone is killed by a drunk driver every 45 minutes. That's a lot of people! Driving a two ton vehicle is dangerous enough, and driving drunk just makes it that much worse. MADD, or Mothers Against Drunk Driving, has, according to their site, reduced the drunk driving fatalities by 50%. If you check out the site, you kind find many more statistics and even read stories about those whose lives have been affected by drunk driving incidents, but most importantly, you can take action. If you go here and choose your state, you can find many different ways that you, personally, can help prevent more unnecessary deaths. Most of them involve getting legislation passed. For example, MADD is advocating for a bill to require all DUI offenders to have an interlock device in their car. Of course, the best way to prevent drunk driving incidents is to not drive drunk and to keep others from driving drunk as well! DIFFICULTY: Easy
Wow! I can't believe it's already the end of March! I've used up all of the helping the environment posts I had in mind, and there were definitely a lot of them! If there's anything to take out of this months challenges I guess it's that helping the environment doesn't always have to be an expensive hassle that's more trouble than it's worth. It can actually be really fun and worthwhile! Tomorrow I'll put of the pictures of the cans I've recycled for this months challenge :) Today's challenge is to teach your computer. How can you do this? By playing games at Gwap. They describe their site as a way to help computers help solve problems for humans all over the world! The game are pretty fun, don't take a lot of time unless you want them to, and are also unique. You don't actually talk to the other players, but you do play against them. What you're ultimately doing is helping computer associate certain sounds and pictures to word, which, in a way, makes them more intelligent! Imagine how useful technology will become in the future when computers are able to think and associate things more like we do! (Another penny for the count!) DIFFICULTY: Medium Since the month of March is winding down and I'm starting to run out of environment themed ideas, I'd thought I'd throw out another way to help people today! The challenge for today is to help economically disadvantaged women rejoin the workforce by providing them with business attire. Having the proper work attire is really important when you're looking to be hired for a job. Dress For Success is an organization that has already helped over 500,000 women. That's pretty impressive! They also have programs that help these women get jobs after they've been given the proper work clothing. You can help by donating in the regular ways, or by giving business attire that you may not use anymore. Here's a list of acceptable donations! DIFFICULTY: Easy Today's challenge is to take the stairs! Even though taking the stairs doesn't really help the environment (the elevators and escalators are, of course, still running after all!) it definitely helps your body. Whenever I volunteer at the hospital, I try to take the stairs. You wouldn't believe how slow the elevators are! By taking the stairs you're usually getting to your destination faster, and you're freeing up elevators and such for the people that actually need them. Sometimes, I'll admit, I use the elevator to get from one end of the hospital to the other, but I'm going to try to stop using the elevator all together. Besides, usually patients are being transported via the elevators, and it's best if they can be alone with their family members and their nurse/doctor. I also found a fun website today where people decided to get other people to do things by making them fun. For example, in the video below, they made the stairs into a piano and a ton of people started taking the stairs instead of the escalator! They also have a bunch of other Fun Theories! DIFFICULTY: Medium I've listed this as medium, but it really can be as easy or as hard as you'd like! Today's challenge is to walk for something important to you! There are plenty of different ways you can walk. The Susan G. Komen 3 Day walk is always a really popular one, but smaller organizations also have walks! What's good about this challenge is that you can support all types of causes. You can walk for health, the fight against poverty, animals, and pretty much anything else! A local organization that helps animals in my town is hosting a walk later on in the year. It's short, 3 miles at the most and then a bunch of events afterwards, but it raises a lot of money and really helps out the cause. Plus, it's really fun! :) Whats a better way to enjoy the spring? |
