Book Recommendations
Here are a few books I've read that I've found to be really inspirational, and I've divided them into different categories. Obviously I only have a few right now, but I'll be adding more soon!
My current "to read" list:
Little Princes by Conor Grennan, I Shall Not Hate by Izzeldin Abueliaish, and Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd

Children
"A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" is a wonderfully well written novel that sheds light on the issue of child soldiers. The story itself follows a boy who flees his home when it comes under attack. It captures perfectly the terror children experience in these situations and carefully exemplifies the damaging effects war has had on the development of the children it has consumed. It is not only a well written novel, but also one that cannot be read in more than one sitting. It is constantly leaving you at the edge of your seat.
Poverty
"Behind the Beautiful Forevers" is a work of non-fiction set in the slums of Mumbai, particularly, Annawadi. Boo follows the lives of several different people, like Abdul, a teenager who recycles garbage to earn money for his family, and Manju, a young woman who hopes to be the first college graduate in Annawadi. She offers a very personal look into their lives, thoughts, and feelings as they face the hardships of growing up in the slums.

Education
"I Am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai is the story of a young girl who stood up for her right to receive an education and was shot by the Taliban. The true story of Malala is powerful, beginning with her early childhood in the Swat Valley and describing the slow takeover by the Taliban of her home in Pakistan. Malala describes the incredible importance of education in her own life, and the need to defend the rights of girls everywhere to receive an education.
